Dimetrodon
Ce n'est pas un Dinosaure
This is my latest version of a Dimetrodon, an extinct creature often mistaken for a dinosaur but is in fact a synapsid and is so more closely related to us mammals than the diapsid dinosaurs.
Hence the subheading which is a play on ‘Ceci n'est pas une pipe’ (‘this is not a pipe’ in one of those funny continental languages), though this is even more true as not only is it not a dinosaur in that it is a representation but it is a representation of something that is not a dinosaur.
process wise for creating this version
-create a guide sketch in pixelmator
rough out with a body shape with the skin modifier
sculpt with dynamic topology
re-topologised (using the new polybuild tool).
use texture map(s) to control colour and location of scales/rough skin texture
for the windsurfer, the log was sculpted as above but re-topologised using voxel remesh
