Plankton
A whole tone of planks
This is another re-work, but rather than just going like for like with the original Carrara version, I was able to create a more varied image with Blender.
The plankton themselves were created by deforming spheres and toruses, deleting faces to leave just the frames and then converting to curves and giving them some depth.
This group of plankton types were then used to populate a particle system, the image you’re seeing is actually the plankton being dropped from an emitter onto the camera.
The material uses are all semi transparent/translucent - emission shader mixes.
